A great man and good friend of mine once told me “Never miss an opportunity to take advantage of a good breach”. At the time, he was my supervisor and we were in the trenches of corporate America fighting for IT security funding and losing to the ever-present mentality of “it will never happen to me”. Though the end goal of security awareness is to help your audience see the value of security and make decisions based on the long picture, sometimes a little FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) goes a long way.
This isn’t a breach, but it is a very scary vulnerability and I am certainly happy that Google and Samsung have been scared awake and are now willing to take patching a bit more seriously. A nod to PW…message received and fear has been leveraged.
