As someone born and raised only minutes from the “World’s Fastest Half Mile” NASCAR track, this article feels like the convergence of two aspects of my world. I must admit that I do not follow NASCAR very closely these days, but I remain impressed by the time, energy, skill and technology that goes into building and running a race car.
When I read an article like this, I stand dumbfounded by the fact that such a critical piece of technology had no backup and that the team had no redundant devices. This is an organization that goes to a race track with spare cars, engines, tools and teammates, but had only one laptop running millions of dollars in software and no data backups.
Clearly, awareness has not made its way to pit road. Time to start.
